It was a truly a giant, unbelievable, too-amazing-to-be-real honor to get to sit-in and photograph two comedic giants – pioneers, activists, comedians and general, all-around bad-asses while they shot-the-shit in all their glorious irreverent hilarity a few weeks ago; Judy Gold and Lea DeLaria with cohost Mr. Lauren Hennessy, also an awe-inspiring and talented man as well. Lea, who plays prison inmate Carrie ‘Big Boo’ Black on “Orange is the New Black,” received a Freedom Award for her work as “a cutting-edge performer” and has worked for 33 years through her art “to change peoples perception of butch, queer and LGBT” as a comedian, activist, actress, writer, and jazz musician. Emmy winner Judy Gold is known for starring in two critically acclaimed, long-running Off-Broadway hit shows, (NY Time’s critic’s pick as “Highly entertaining! Brash, Buoyant & Infectiously nostalgic“), and has made countless television and film appearances. Judy was also nominated for the 2012 Outer Critics Circle Award for The Judy Show, as well as a 2006 Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Solo Performance for her previous show, 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother. And so much more! Let’s let it suffice to say, hearing and photographing their interview was truly epic!
